The terms, in plain words.

These terms are an agreement between you and Thought Continua LLC, doing business as Our Kind of Story (“we”). They apply when you use ourkindofstory.com or order a book. Ordering is not open yet; until it is, only the parts about the website and the waiting list apply. Questions: hello@ourkindofstory.com.

1. Who can order

You must be 18 or older. You may only upload photos of your own family: you must be the parent or legal guardian of every child in your book, and have permission from every adult pictured. We check, and we may cancel and refund any order that does not meet this rule. If something looks wrong to you, use the “report a concern” link on any book page, and we will stop work on that order while we look.

2. What you upload

You keep every right you have in your photos. You give us permission to use them only to make your book, as described in our privacy policy, including deleting them 30 days after you approve your cast.

Please do not ask us to include:

• real people from outside your family, or children who are not your own
• characters, brands or celebrities that belong to someone else
• anything that blames, mocks or harms a parent, a co-parent or anyone else
• medical claims, or a promise that a book will heal or treat anything

We may decline a request that crosses these lines. We report any image of child abuse to the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children, as the law requires.

3. How a book is made

Each book is made to order for one family. The pictures are painted by image models from your photos and the details you give us. The stories are drafted with AI help and edited by a person. You approve every character, then the whole book, before it prints, and a person on our team checks every book too. Included with every book: 1 redo for each character and 3 page redos. Extra redos have a small charge, shown before you confirm.

4. Prices and payment

Prices are shown on our pricing page in US dollars: currently the hardcover at $49, the digital edition at $19, a custom story at $129 and an extra copy at $29, plus shipping and any sales tax. You pay before we make the full book.

5. Refunds and cancellations

Because every book is personalized and made to order, refunds work in stages. We show this before you pay, and ask you to confirm it.

• Before you approve your cast: cancel for a full refund.
• After you approve your cast: no cash refund for a change of mind. If a likeness is not right, we will redraw it once in another style, or give you store credit.
• After you approve the proof: the book is final. If it arrives damaged or misprinted, we reprint and replace it at no cost.
• Digital edition: final once downloaded.

6. Shipping and dates

Printing usually takes 3 to 5 business days, then shipping. When we give you a delivery date, we have a reasonable basis for it. If we learn we will miss it, we will tell you before the date, and you may choose to wait or cancel for a full refund. If we do not hear from you, we refund you. Holiday order-by dates are shown only once our printer has proven them.

7. Your book

Your book is for you and your family to keep, read, give and share with the people in it. You may not sell copies or use it commercially. We will not show your book publicly unless you separately say yes. The Our Kind of Story name, logo, story texts and page designs belong to us.

8. Books are for ages 3 and up

Our books are ordinary hardcover picture books for children 3 to 8. They are not toys or board books.

9. Our responsibility

We work hard to make every book right, and the approval steps are there so that you see exactly what will print. To the extent the law allows, our total responsibility for any order is limited to what you paid for it, and we are not responsible for indirect losses. Nothing in these terms limits rights you have under consumer law that cannot be waived.

10. Disputes

If something goes wrong, write to us first, and we will try to put it right. If we cannot, either of us may bring a claim in small claims court in Riverside County, California, or where you live. These terms are governed by California law.

11. Changes

We may update these terms. The version that applies to an order is the one shown when you placed it.
